“You’re not necessarily getting paid even when you have a work appointment.”
That phrase really hit me.
I had an interesting conversation with a good friend recently. He’s a very successful Pilates trainer, his days are packed back-to-back, easily 10 appointments a day. Something I can only dream of as a financial consultant.
As we compared our careers, he said something that struck me:
“I get paid every time I have an appointment with my client.
You don’t necessarily get paid when you have an appointment with someone.”
And that’s 100% true.
In my career, you can meet someone, give your best, educate them… and still earn nothing.
There’s no certainty. No fixed income for effort. No guaranteed return for time invested.
It goes against the nature of a typical job — where you get paid for the time you spend working.
And sometimes, you can’t help but wonder: Why put myself through this hardship? What’s the point?
I’ve asked myself this question for a long time.
But over the years, I’ve also realised something:
His career has its own struggle.
He must always exchange time for money. If he doesn’t show up, he earns zero. And he has to do this for life.
With my career, once I have acquired client, I don’t necessarily need to meet them to continue earning an income.
And here’s the part that makes me grateful for what I do:
I’m proud of my work.
Because every once in a while, a client tells me:
“I don’t know what my life would be like if I hadn’t met you.”
And that makes everything worth it.
The early struggle…
The resilience…
The uncertainty…
All of it becomes fuel.
I may not have the easiest path, but I’m in a career where I can genuinely change someone’s life, protect families, secure futures, and bring peace of mind.
And that’s the reason I keep going.
Because building something meaningful has never been easy, but it has always been worth it.
